Scottish MEP David Martin has called for a complete ban on the use of monkeys in research, which has been picked up on the BBC website.

Mr Martin claims that it is immoral to use animal so closely related to us in research, and that the research does not work.

However, Mr Martin undermines his own claims by using false information. In the video clip, he claims that chimpanzees and other great apes are used in Scotland. This is not the case. No great ape has been used for research in the UK for over 25 years, and the practice was banned by the Government over a decade ago.
